Graphene

Graphene has received extensive research attention in the last 2-3 decades because of its fascinating properties. The mobility of the free electron within the sheet contributes to a conduction band that extends over the whole sheet. Graphene, therefore, acts like a partial metal and the charge carriers in graphene show linear dependence of energy on momentum.

Graphene strongly absorbs light of all visible wavelengths, resulting in its characteristic black colour. A single graphene sheet is nearly transparent, however, because of how extremely thin it is.
